elDiario.es

Role

UX/UI Designer · Editorial Designer

Overview

This project is a redesign proposal for elDiario.es focused on improving readability, navigation, and visual hierarchy. The goal was to create a calmer and more accessible news experience by simplifying the interface, reducing visual noise, and developing a more structured editorial system adapted to modern digital reading habits.

The Problem

Many digital newspapers feel overloaded with banners, dense layouts, and competing visual elements that make reading difficult and exhausting over time.

In the case of elDiario.es, the redesign focused on improving:

  • content hierarchy

  • readability

  • navigation clarity

  • and visual consistency across sections.

The challenge was creating a cleaner experience without losing the identity and informational richness of the platform.

The Solution

The redesign introduces a cleaner editorial structure with improved spacing, clearer typography hierarchy, and a more organized navigation system.

The interface was simplified to help users focus on the content while reducing unnecessary visual distractions. News cards, article previews, and category structures were redesigned to create a more balanced reading flow across desktop and mobile devices.

Special attention was given to accessibility, contrast, and responsive behavior to ensure a more comfortable reading experience.

Visual System & User Experience

The visual system keeps the recognizable identity of elDiario.es while introducing a more contemporary and minimal approach.

The redesign combines:

  • stronger typography hierarchy

  • cleaner spacing

  • softer visual rhythm

  • and modular editorial components.

The interface was designed to feel modern and readable without losing the seriousness and credibility associated with news platforms.

One of the main goals of the redesign was making information easier to scan and navigate.

The interface uses:

  • clearer hierarchy

  • larger spacing

  • simplified navigation

  • and more structured content blocks.

The reading experience was designed to feel lighter and less overwhelming while maintaining the fast pace and richness expected from a digital newspaper.

Advertisement Integration

One of the key goals of the project was redesigning the relationship between content and advertising.

Instead of relying on disruptive banners and visually aggressive placements, advertisements were integrated within the modular layout system using the same structural logic as editorial content. This allows ads to remain visible without interrupting the reading flow or overwhelming the interface.

The “bento box” structure helps create a more organized and balanced visual rhythm across the page while improving the overall browsing experience.

Outcome

The redesign reimagines elDiario.es through a cleaner and more accessible editorial experience. By simplifying the interface and improving readability, the project creates a calmer and more structured way of consuming digital news while preserving the identity and credibility of the platform.
